If you really enjoy and love what you do, you will indulge yourself in it. And you go so deep in it that you are affected by nothing around you – time, space, emotions, nothing come your way. I believe you can actually realize God (God or supreme power or bliss or Infinity or “Atman” or whatever you call it as) in you when you pour your soul into what you are doing.
Take scientists for example, whether it is Einstein or Abdul Kalaam, the world appraises them for their scientific inventions and discoveries. The world applauds them for their work. But I feel, in the end, they see something else what the normal world misses to see. They realize something of higher importance and value than their own discovery/invention.
Abdul Kalaam has actually said that he does not want to be known as a rocket scientist, but wants to be known as a good soul (I read this in ‘The Hindu’ some time back) . How do you think that simplicity and humbleness has come to him? He is indeed a great soul.
My respect and reverence for Albert Einstein grew when i read his quote some time back:
“A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty… The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. … We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive.”
What made him talk about liberation from self?
Its not only scientist, take artists like singers. It is not uncommon to find great singers say that they find peace and bliss through the music. Actually, anyone who has the real authority in his field, might end up saying that. Maynot be the exact words but ultimately they all end up in self-realization.Whether they shout it out or not, they do.
I think that is the goal of life for anyone. We are all searching something in our life. Right from the time the first thought sprouted in our minds, right from the time our mouths started uttering its first sound, right from the time our we put our foot on the ground, the search has started. Whether we realize it or not, it is just going on as a background process. It is an ongoing process till our minds die.
Many of us are not even aware of the search – the quest in the mind. Many of us are not clear about what exactly are we searching. Many of us are not clear whats the need to search. Many of us are not clear about which way to go to search.
Blessed are those who are ignorant. More blessed are those who have found the way. Still more, are those who have quenched their thirst for search!
You don’t need to be religious or spiritual to quench your thirst. You don’t need a religious/spiritual Guru to guide you. You don’t need to follow a particular school of thought. Well, oh yes you don’t even need to agree with me that you are on a quest or your mind is searching for something! But, if you do what you do with your 100% in it, if you love what you do, if you dedicate your life for something, in the end, you are bound to realize your true self.
